Goodbye February! Hello March!

Welcome back!  We hope you had a wonderful vacation with time to rest and time to laugh. Here are the most significant things coming up in Second Grade:

Conferences:  Please click this LINK to sign up or to check your time.  I look forward to meeting with each of you to review your child’s progress.  Children may come with you, but will stay in the hallway so we can keep things moving along.

Assembly Presentation: The second grade classes will be sharing a song, and one each of the Public Service Announcements we created.  This will happen next Monday, March 6 sometime between 9 and 9:30.  We would love to have you join us!  Students should try to wear green or blue in honor of our planet.

Flat Stanley:  The day before vacation, students brought home their Flat Stanley and a letter Flat Stanley "wrote" in an envelope.  Attached to the envelope, we attached a letter explaining the project to families.  Please see this link, and let me know if you have any questions.

Family Math Night:  Here is the information for an informative and FUN night of Math!

Volunteer Opportunities:  Very soon you will be receiving an invitation to help us out in preparing the soil and the seeds for the Happy Hollow garden.  If you have a particular interest in this area please let us know.  Thank you all so much!

February is here!

The days are getting longer!  Have you noticed?  What a welcome sight!  There is lots going on in Room 6… so please read all of this post…

Conferences
First, Parent Teacher conferences are coming up!  Please click this link to sign up.

Valentine’s Day
Next, we hope you saw your child’s Weekly Notice that went home today.  In particular, we need tissue boxes by this Friday to make mailboxes for Valentine’s Day.  Not quite empty? Send it in anyway and we will store the extra tissues!

States of Matter
Last week, thanks to the PTO and all of your generous contributions, we hosted the Acton Discovery Museum with their traveling science program. The students enjoyed the amazing experiments, especially the ones involving dry ice! Here is a group picture:

Public Service Announcements
We are putting the finishing touches on our environmental Public Service Announcements. On Wednesday, we will have our Second Grade Film Festival, which will be the premier of our short movies. Pat Conaway, our environmental expert, will be our special guest.

Two Digit Addition and Subtraction Assessment
Mathematicians in our classroom have been working hard on these computation skills.  The assessment will be given by the end of the week.

Sharing
This month we are sharing about a favorite movie.  A notice went home today with instructions.  Students need to tell me what movie they are doing BEFORE they prepare the information, so that we do not have duplicates.  Sign up early!

Finally, we welcome any questions or feedback you have, anytime.  Stay warm!
