January is finally OVER!

January 31, 2019

There has been so much happening in second grade at HH!  Please read to the end. Here are some pictures from activities, starting with the most recent:

Buddies  This past Friday our buddies helped us create scales for a beautiful dragon display, to celebrate the Chinese New Year.  If you are in the school check it out, on the left across from the hallway that leads to Technology and the Library.

Last week our buddies came in to finish up our posters about love and justice, using quotes from Martin Luther King Jr., to be displayed at the MLK Dinner that evening.  Several of these posters were chosen to be displayed at the Wayland Central Office before we get them back!

Firefighter Todd
We had a visit last Thursday from a firefighter in Wayland who comes every year to talk with our students about fire safety. They talked about what to do in case of several different emergencies.  Farrah and DJ were chosen to practice the Stop Drop and Roll!

Last week:
WMS Students
Last week we had a visit from Wayland Middle School students, including Ms. Nolan’s son Jamie, my former student! This is the second year in a row they have done a community service project and come to Happy Hollow.  They helped us begin creating our Public Service Announcements in IMovie!

Science Presentation
Also last Friday we had a presentation from the Acton Discovery Museum on Changes in States of Matter.  This is funded by the PTO and we so appreciate all of your donations to help make this happen.

Weather
We have had snow and extreme cold last week, and most students are well prepared!  Please remember to check your child’s cloth bag to make sure it includes snow pants, boots, gloves, hats and both boots AND shoes to wear in the classroom.

THANK YOU ALL for sending in tissues, hand sanitizer and wipes for our desks.  We are hoping that our winter illnesses are over!  On that note, our School Nurses have issued this notice about strep.

Needs for the classroom:  if anyone can send in small, hand-held pencil sharpeners we could really use them.  Thank you!

Finally, a message when Mr. Lee came in to cover a recess duty last week:

We could not agree more!
