March goes out like a lamb...

Happy Spring!

We were SO proud of the students for their Environmental Presentation to the school last week.  Here is a Video of the performance if you were not able to make it...

You can also see our Public Service Announcements, created using IMovie, on the left side of this blog. The children's work will continue to influence family, friends, and the community to be more environmentally conscious, through these PSA's.

Speaking of spring, the Happy Hollow Gardening effort is in full swing!  We planted broccoli and kale last week in our classroom, and also helped our buddies to plant peas. They grew so fast that we were able to bring some of them out for a brief time in our greenhouse today!  A huge thank you goes out to Melissa Krochmal who helped us in the classroom... here are some photos that she took:

Please let us know if you'd like to help!

There are several other things happening in Room 6. We just completed our Geometry unit in math and have begun our most significant unit, 3-Digit Addition and Subtraction.

In Social Studies we have begun our unit on the Continents of the World where we will be doing a lot of research.  Flat Stanley projects can be sent in anytime- Connor Troidl shared his today with pictures from Taipei Taiwan!  Remember these are due by April 5.

Our next field trip will be to The Butterfly Place in Westford, MA on April 12.  A permission form went home today.  Our own caterpillars will arrive after the April break.

The Book Fair is coming to Happy Hollow this week!  Please look at the notice that went home today.  You can either send money in with your student on Wednesday (March 27), or come in during any of the open times mentioned in the flyer.

A few notes from the office... please note that the Bus Registration is different this year... check the HH EBlast for information.  Also, please continue to send in Boxtops for our Student Council!

Finally, thank you to all the parents who have come in for conferences. I enjoyed meeting with you and setting goals for the rest of the year.  We have a lot left to do and will work hard from now until June. We hope you are enjoying this warmer weather and can get outside for some fresh air after a long winter!

Film Festival etc.

Hello families-
First, the second grade is planning a presentation to the school next Monday, March 18 at 9 am in the assembly to celebrate our study of the environment through persuasive writing and collaboration.  We worked with 8th graders from WMS to develop PSA's using IMovie, wrote Opinion pieces in class, and worked with our 4th grade buddies to type them up.  You are all invited to attend! Please ask your child to wear GREEN in honor of the environment!

This past week we invited Ms. Morrison's father, Pat Conaway, to come in and see what we had completed with his inspiration.  Mr. Lee attended this Film Festival and was quite impressed!  We only had time to have 2 writing pieces shared, Connor and Farrah, but they are all amazing!  Here are some photos:

All of the Public Service Announcements are now posted on our blog, to the left of this message.  Check them out!

Also, please look for an item in the Auction booklet that went home last week, on the last page. All second graders are invited to a nature clean up day with Pat Conaway and the teachers, and we ask that you donate something to the PTO.  It will be great fun and we will do something tangible for the environment as well!

Another exciting activity we are doing in Room 6 is planting seeds indoors to eventually transplant outside, to grow and be enjoyed by students in our cafeteria during our Spring Harvest Day!  If you have ANY interest in helping with the HH gardens, please let me know asap.  Thank you!

Finally I have enjoyed meeting with parents during conferences and I look forward to meeting with the rest of you this week and next.  Here again is the LINK to the schedule!  See you soon!

March comes in like a Lion!

Happy Snow Day!  I hope your children are enjoying it and it has not inconvenienced your family.

Last week the children were treated to a Cultural Enrichment called the Tanglewood Marionettes, performing The Dragon King, thanks to the PTO and your contributions.  Here are a few pictures:

This week we have a very exciting day Thursday with our Environmental Celebration. Pat Conaway will return to see all the hard work and passion that has gone into our Public Service Announcements and Opinion writing. The children are realizing their potential as agents of change!  I will share this more with you at your child’s conference.

Here is a link to the conference schedule, so you can check your time. I look forward to talking about your child’s progress.

Also this week we will begin our work on spring planting, and Mr. Tiberii will come in to talk about composting and help us start a worm bin. If you’d like to be involved in any gardening efforts please let me know asap.  Thank you!

Stay warm and dry!
